Rid Back and Neck Pain With the Right Mattress:

"Many Americans fight an ongoing battle against back and neck pain on a daily basis. Many factors can be attributed to this type of chronic joint pain, including bad posture, genetic abnormalities, or a poor quality mattress. While some of these issues can be corrected through physical therapy, surgery, or by eliminating bad habits, replacing your old mattress may be the easiest way to help mitigate your back pain quickly.

Most people spend at least 6 hours a night lying on a mattress. However, not all mattresses are created equal. Many people still do not take into consideration the importance of a firm mattress. There is a common misconception that a softer mattress will be more comfortable, thus making it easier for you to fall asleep and gain a better nights rest. For most people, this is not the case. A softer mattress means less metal coils, and less coils means less support, most notably where you need it most. Over time, a softer mattress with less structural support will begin to sag in the middle which can wreak havoc on your back.

When choosing a mattress, ask the sales person about the coil count of the mattress you are interested in. A quality innerspring mattress should have a coil count of between 300-400 coils. Anything less than that will break down easily which can lead to back problems down the road, especially if you tend to sleep on your stomach. Remember that a good mattress is an investment in both your physical and mental well being. Your body makes many important restorations while you are sleeping and a good night sleep is vital to your overall health."
